HUSKERS COMMENTARY

Following the Nebraska Cornhuskers has played an integral part of my life and has been passed down through multiple generations of my family.  Furthermore, as an alumni I feel a special bond that can overcome the rare down years we have in football (like 2002) and still somehow love them, warts and all.

Over the last year I have acquired some software and a faster computer that allows me to take portions of taped games I have and put them together with music to form highlight videos.  These videos serve a few important purposes:  Not only do they remind us just how good some of our former players were, but they also tend to shoot down the annual hyperboles over "this player is better than ___ was!" with visual evidence.  It is also handy as a way to remind our Blackshirts just how defense is supposed to be played.

MEDIEVAL REENACTMENT AND COMBAT

Many sub-interests fall underneath the umbrella of this hobby, and it is by far the most expensive of them all.  More interested in the portrayal aspect and research aspect than the actual fighting, recently I have become a member of Skjaldborg, a live-steel fighting Viking reenactment group with a high standard of accuracy.  I have multiple eras that I have and continue to portray, some based on archeological data and some simply based on pure fantasy.  While I am a relative newcomer to this community (starting in 1998), I have had an interest in many of these things dating back to my youth.

GENEALOGY

Though this hobby has been dormant for the last year and a half, I have made a significant effort to develop an accurate family tree for both sides of my family.  Originally started as a way to find any semblance of past family heraldry, this hobby blossomed into a whole subculture of research and interests.  Time-consuming and often tedious, this hobby is a difficult one to follow on a limited schedule but the rewards when successful make it all worth it.

COMPUTER GAMES

I was fortunate to have been growing up right at the very start of computer gaming as we know it.  From Pong to the Commodore 64 to the old school Nintendo to today's latest games, I have seen the industry grow from it's infancy to near photo-realism.  And I have been fortunate enough to play just a ton of great games during that span.  Eventually I will share a list of games I have played, and recount ones that hold a special place in my heart.  Just like many songs, every game has a story and can take you back to a certain time in your life.  Do you remember where you were when you played Zork?  The first Bill Walsh College Football on a Sega?  Ultima IV?  Gran Turismo?  Wing Commander?  Doom?  Max Payne?  This is a fun subculture to explore.

EA NCAA FOOTBALL

There are few hobbies of mine that strike so hard and fill my free time so fully as this spectacular game franchise.  I started playing this game on the old-school Sega back in college (like the first season of Bill Walsh) and have been playing ever since.  In these pages you will find comprehensive records and data from all my friends who enjoy the dementia (or "fever" as some would say) that this game creates.  There are few experiences on this Earth more rewarding than the Dynasty Mode and Recruiting in this game.  If you haven't played it, you wouldn't understand.

MUSIC

While far from a true connoisseur of types of music, I have a wide range of tastes (and also some true audiophile friends that constantly find me new music).  I'll do what most people who live on the internet do and share some favorite songs on occasion.

MOVIE

Kris and I share our collection of DVDs and our thoughts on certain movies.  Not particularly interesting, but oh well.

HUMOR

With my background in art occasionally I will throw something together with my mediocre Photoshop skills in an attempt to be funny.  I also have some funny pictures I have collected from around the internet and will park them here on occasion.

I now have added a collection of some of the coolest and strangest places I have found around the internet.  You've been warned!

In true Dirk Diggler (Boogie Nights) fashion, I am a man of many interests.  Amazingly enough these eclectic tastes are tolerated by my loving wife, which is really remarkable considering how expensive some of the hobbies are.  I hope that you enjoy my primitive little site, and I hope that I can make it better for you all.
